Participant Guide — Newmarket July Festival 2026

1 Submitting Your Selections

For Festival Friday you'll select one horse for each of the 7 races — all in a single submission before the deadline.

Step 1: Go to Submit Selections

From the home page, click Submit Selections.

Step 2: Enter Your Details

Fill in your name and email address. Use the same email if you need to check your results later — it's how the platform identifies you.

Step 3: Pick Your Horses

For each of the 7 races, select one horse from the dropdown. Horses marked ⭐ are the current race favourites.

Step 4: Submit Before the Deadline

Click "Submit My Selections" before the deadline on 10 July 2026. The countdown timer shows exactly how long you have.

You can only submit once. Double-check your selections before hitting submit — changes cannot be made after submission.

Check the Race Card first to see all runners, jockeys, and trainers before making your picks.

2 The Race Card

The Race Card shows every runner for each of the 7 races on Festival Friday.

      What You'll See:
      Horse Name with cloth number
Jockey & Trainer
Favourite marked with a gold badge
Status — updated during the day as winners are declared and non-runners confirmed

    

The race card updates in real time. Check back during the day to see which of your horses have won.

3 The Leaderboard

The Leaderboard shows the live standings for all participants throughout the day.

      What You'll See:
      Position — your current ranking
Total Points — your cumulative score across all races
Podium — top 3 participants highlighted

    

How Points Are Calculated

Points are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. The base points for each position are boosted by the winner's Starting Price (SP) odds — so longer-priced winners are worth considerably more than short-priced favourites.

      Scoring System:
      🥇 1st place: 10 points + full SP odds (e.g. 5/1 = 10 + 5.0 = 15 pts)
🥈 2nd place: 5 points + half SP odds (e.g. 5/1 = 5 + 2.5 = 7.5 pts)
🥉 3rd place: 2 points + quarter SP odds (e.g. 5/1 = 2 + 1.25 = 3.25 pts)
Unplaced: 0 points

    

The SP odds are converted from fractional to decimal for the calculation — for example 9/2 becomes 4.5, and Evens becomes 1.0. A short-priced favourite at Evens scores 11 pts for a win, while a 20/1 outsider scores 30 pts.

The leaderboard refreshes automatically every 60 seconds — watch your position change as each race result comes in!

4 My Results

The My Results page is your personal dashboard for the day.

Step 1: Enter Your Email

Go to My Results and enter the email address you used when submitting your selections.

Step 2: View Your Dashboard

You'll see your leaderboard position, total points, and a full breakdown of all 7 races showing which horses you picked and how many points each earned.

      What You'll See Per Race:
      Your selected horse for each race
1st place winners marked with 🏆
2nd place horses marked with 🥈
3rd place horses marked with 🥉
Points earned per race (including 2nd and 3rd place scores)
Running total

    

Bookmark the My Results page and check back after each race to see how you're doing.

Tips for Success

Always use the same email address — this links your selections to your results dashboard
Check the race card — research runners before choosing
Submit before the deadline — you cannot enter after it closes
Mix safe picks with longer shots — points are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but longer-priced horses score significantly more; a single big-priced winner can jump you several places on the leaderboard
Check back during the day — watch your position on the leaderboard as each race finishes
